Torquay 7
Kings continued their winning ways and showed power in the forwards and ambition in the backs. Back rowers Freddie Buckle, Jack Fergusson, Patrick Trinick and Will Hitch scrapped for ball and were usually first to the breakown. All drove well and provided lots of ball to the backs where Tom Putt was able to call several moves. The muddy conditions slowed the game and made handling difficult but wings Laurence Partridge, Jamie Ogglesby and Kieron Clarke all received the ball in space. Seb Ansley joined the line well from full back and was his ever dependable self in defence. He scored a superb try after much passing by the three quarters and a strong run from centres Matty Allen and Toby Pepperell that sucked in the Torquay defence.
Allen bagged a try for himself late on in the game with a typical battering run. Fynn McCoy put in the tackle of the game with a thundering effort that frustrated a Torquay revival.
Front rowers Tom Simpson, Ralp Hayes, Pete Sumner and Ross Taylor were dominant in the scrum with Hayes proving versatile at loosehead and hooker. Sumner took the penalty charges near the opposition line and was successful in crossing the line on his third effort. Dan Jarvis was industrious as usual and Michael Clarke scored a try with his trademark speed after receiving the ball in broken play.
Tom Putt scored two conversions in addition to a superb try. His practice is paying off with one conversion sailing over from a wide position that other kickers would not have converted.
