The Under 10 squad brought their enthusiasm and commitment from their vigorous Friday night training to Paignton on a bright and sunny morning.
They quickly got into their stride by beating Withycombe in the first match 10 – 5, in a very evenly matched contest.
Their second encounter against Tavistock, a team they have never played before, saw their defence relax a little, letting in 2 tries but ending on a draw of 10 / 10.
Next they faced the touring side of Avonvale scoring a fantastic 9 tries although they did allow the opposition to score their only try of the tournament!
Having been beaten by Brixham earlier in the season, Kings were out to even the score and succeeded in fine style with a score of 35 / 5, proving they must have been well and truly asleep previously!
The last match was against Torquay with whom they have had close contests with earlier in the season, being beaten on two occasions. Kings proved to be the stronger team on the day with a convincing win of 15 / 0.
This put Kingsbridge 3 points ahead on the leader board, with Withycombe coming in second, which saw them through to the final on number of tries scored. As expected the final match was closely fought but Withy’s ‘fresher legs’ got them the extra try, bringing the final score of 5 /10.
The Under 10s once again proved themselves to be one of the top teams in the area and they can be very proud to have scored more than twice as many tries than the other teams on the day – 22 in total.
With lessons learned they look forward to the Devon Festival on April 22nd at Devonport.
