Kingsbridge U10s v Sidmouth U10s

The long trip up the motorway did not deter Kings who put pressure on Sidmouth from the first kick off.

Some great tackling from Will John and good defence and covering of the ball from Louie Harrow saw Kings maintain territory.

Following another crunching tackle from Joss West, Rylan Jackson secured the ball and a well timed off load from Tom Newman saw Will John take the first try.

More determined play created a rolling maul, with Ivor Matthews holding tightly onto the ball, keeping possession. After some strong rucking Will was able to sneak through Sidmouth’s defence for a second try.

Archie Walwyn made a fantastic break up the wing but the opposition’s defence denied him the try but a short while later Ivor reached over the line to make sure of another 5 points.

Tom’s pace took him the full length of the pitch but a last minute tackle denied him the try but Joss was on hand to rip the ball and get the try.

Ben Hyne did a good job of protecting the ball and Finn Ive’s dogged determination paid off, with some strong runs. It was Tom however who managed to streak through for 2 further tries taking the final score to 30 – 0.

Kingsbridge U10s v Withycombe U10s

Having had close encounters with Withycombe on previous occasions Kings knew they were in for a tough match. Some fresh legs were brought on for the second game of the day but this time round Withy proved to be a team to beat.

Despite some great tackling from Milo Hignett and Ivor, more persistent jackling of the ball from Louie, Sam Brizio’s unrelenting defending, Kings just didn’t find their usual shape in this second match.

In a highly competitive second half, Archie nearly got the try Kings so desperately wanted but a quick defensive kick saw him denied. Finn Whelan almost made his mark with a strong run down the sideline but was pushed into touch.

Some good ball handling skills from Withy and an equally strong defence, despite the constant efforts of the team saw them take all the points on this particular day, with a final score of 20 – 0.

Kings eagerly anticipate seeing them at the Festival next weekend!
