Kingsbridge kick started their season with a comprehensive victory against a much improved Services side who held Kings to 7 – 0 in the first half. Captain Freddie Buckle finished off a 50 metre thundering run by Luke Musgrave after he picked up turnover ball from the base of a ruck deep in Kingsbridge territory. Fred’s support play meant he was on hand to touch down in the corner. Tom Putt converted superbly from the touchline some 35 metres out.
Kingsbridge tried hard to offload and move the ball through the hands but alas too slowly. Michael Carson shone, always eager to cause havoc in broken play and the blue scrum was dominant throughout the match, able to force the services pack backwards time and time again. Ben King and Jack Fergusson frequently got Kings out of trouble by forcing a turnover at the breakdown.
The second half saw a re shuffle with Matty Allen moving to number 8 and debutant George Rivas at scrum half. Fyn McCoy commanded play at fly half with Tom Putt moving to inside centre. The team immediately had a sharper look about them and recorded 31 points in the second period which started with Tom Putt tackling the receiver of his kick off and forcing a turnover. George Rivas scored soon after after he too chased his his own kick and won the ball back from the receiving defender.
Michael Carson touched down after Joe Banfield put speed on the ball and Kieron Clarke passed back inside to Carson whose angled run cut through the Services defence. Ben King scored a much deserved try after stealing the ball from a Services lineout. Joe Banfield scored following a quick tap penalty from Rivas. Joe streaked down the wing with his speed ensuring he evaded the numerous cover tackles. Luke Musgrave scored the last try after Pete Sumner tied up the Services forwards with a powerfull run through their ranks. Tom Putt completed the morning with a total of 4 conversions
